I’ve been using a Hamilton Beach 33956 Set ‘n Forget 5-Quart Slow Cooker, White for about a year and have found it to be a bit small for my family of 5 when preparing certain leftover-friendly foods like chili. This Frigidaire 7 quart slow cooker is larger and more impressive than the Hamilton Beach unit in all the right ways. It has a more pronounced oval footprint, which takes up significantly less space on a busy counter top. The programming features enable low, medium and high settings as well as buffet and warm where the other unit did not offer buffet or medium setting functions. The unit is made of very high quality materials and would not look out of place in the kitchen with even the highest end stainless appliances. It would also make a great choice for professional caterers or anyone who entertains.
I tested this cooker by making a full 7 quart batch of au gratin potatoes for Thanksgiving. While it took nearly 8 hours on the high setting to get to the consistency that I was looking for, the results were really not very distinguishable from those coming out of a 400 degree oven – which impressed me quite a lot. As we live in FL and Thanksgiving was abnormally warm this year, I was really happy to be able to delegate this recipe so successfully to a slow cooker rather than a super-heated oven. We’re in left-over heaven.

|Best Slow Cooker I’ve Ever Owned!!!,
As part of the Vine program, I selected the counter-top convection oven but instead, this slow cooker arrived. Because the order was incorrect, the review was removed so it does not show as a purchase or vine review however, I do indeed have this model at home. Despite the mixed up order (which was sooooo disappointing), I must admit this is a terrific product!
Like about a zillion others, I’ve owned both the crock pot and Hamilton Beach version of slow cookers for years but frankly, it never seems to get much use despite the fact that I make homemade soup at least once per week. Plain and simple, it’s too small for the big pot of soup. Today, I decided to make soup in this and see how it went. It’s FANTASTIC!
Pro’s:
Large enough to handle a big pot of soup, chili or anything else you might want!
Very simple to use – one touch button for most things or set the time and temperature manually. Don’t toss out the instructions! I did and regret it because it took me a couple minutes to figure out how to start things with the manual set-up. The simplicity is a bit deceptive so either read it or go through the settings once.
Easy to clean.
Clear lid for easy viewing
Nice sized handles – nothing cheap or shaky. Feels firm.
Negatives:
Storage is a bit clumsy due to the shape/size but of course, that is to be expected. Also, and this is a very minor item…there was a small label which left a mark when the advertisement was removed from the face. It’s minor but a bit irritating.
Gets hot including the handle on the lid. Again, not a bit deal but worth noting.
Concerns:
I could not find mention of whether or not the ceramic type interior for the pot was fully lead-free or not. If anyone else locates that information, please pass it along. I have tried to eliminate lead from all sources and know there are new forms that are free of major contaminates but this does not seem to specify.
All in all – REALLY enjoy this slow cooker!

|Nice Large slow cooker,
I like this slow cooker because it is 7 quart size big enought to cook a large pot roast with carrots and potatoes for a family of six or more. Also it is nice for a big pot of soup or stew! I have used it on high and low and like both for different reasons. On high the pot roast I made was done in 5 hours. The slow range I like for soups and stews, put it on in the morning and it is done when you are ready for dinner. I like also that it is programable nice feature. The ceramic crock part of the cooker is nice as you can take it out for serving. It is an elegant glazed black so looks nice setting it on the table like a soup taurine. The clear glass lid allows you to look at the progress of your meal. Pretty stainless steel outside, classy looking slow cooker.
